RAWALPINDI
Given the acute deficit of water in the garrison megacity
coupled with sinking groundwater sources, the authorities have approved the
construction of two new state- of- the- art heads in the garrison megacity.
Sources said the Punjab Small heads Organization approved the
systems for construction of Mujahid and Mohata heads while finances have also
been released for construction of these two heads under the Annual Development Programmed. ( ADP).
The source said with the construction of these two heads, 350,000
people abiding in the cities of the Rawalpindi quarter will get access to clean
drinking water while the force of water from these heads will also help wash,13000
acres of agrarian land.
Both these systems were conceived during the governance of
former civil minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and were latterly included in the ADP
after blessing.
Tender have been issued toward contracts for the construction
of two water store systems.
The estimated cost of
the Mujahid Dam, which will be constructed the Chontra region, is Rs937.73
million.
An irrigation system will also be laid along with this levee,
which will wash,7000 acres of land in the vast pastoral area of Chontra, the
sources said. Around,150,000 people of Chontra and girding areas will get
drinkable water for which water tanks will be erected.
The construction of the Mujahid Dam will be finished in the 2 year
6 month.
On the other hand, the Mohata Dam will be constructed in
Raika, the densely peopled union council of Rawalpindi District, at an
estimated cost of Rs660.23 million and will help wash,60,000 acres of agrarian
land in the area.
Sources said aquatic tanks will be constructed and drinking
water channels will also be laid in addition to the irrigation system alongside
the levee.
The Mohata
Dam will be constructed in a record- breaking period of 1 year 6 months, the
sources claimed.
